Vanessa grew up a military BRAT, spending most of her childhood in Turkey and Germany, moving every 2-4 years. She completed her Bachelors in Communication Design at Southwest Texas State University in 2001. Vanessa attended Dallas Theological Seminary and obtained a Masters in Biblical Counseling. She leads young adult IOPs using DBT therapy and specializes in difficult transitions, co-parenting, self-doubt, anxiety and stress. There has been a lot of buzz about the Netflix show 13 Reasons Why. The show emphasizes bullying, rape, and suicide in the life of American teenagers, and the consequences of witnessing these horrific events. However, the show fails to address how to get help for these difficult issues. In addition, it also reinforces one of the worst millennial ideals today: life is only as valuable as we think it is. This class will address these sensitive issues and how we, as parents, should handle them.
